PTA decides to lift a ban on PUBG Game

Islamabad: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) announced to lift the ban on the online game player Unknown Battlefield (PUBG).

In a statement, the PTA said it had met with legal representatives of the PUBG. The delegates informed the Authority in response to questions raised by the PTA regarding the controls in place to prevent misuse of the gaming platform.

The Authority expressed satisfaction with the steps taken so far and called for a comprehensive approach to continuous engagement and control.

The statement added that the delegates welcomed the PTA’s views on the matter and assured to address their concerns, urging the Telecommunications Authority to lift the ban.

He added PTA has decided to ban PUBG following engagement and response of the company.

Reacting to the news, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said the decision to lift the ban on online games was sensible.

Earlier, telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to temporarily suspend the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Game.

The regulator had received complaints from different segments of society in Pakistan.It took the decision keeping in view these complaints.

Moreover, PTA has received numerous complaints against PUBG. The complainants had stated that the game is addictive, wastage of time, and poses a serious negative impact on the physical and psychological health of the Children.

Recent media reports had reported cases of suicide attributed to the PUBG game. Honorable Lahore High court has also directed PTA to look into the issue and decide the matter after hearing the complainants.

In this regard, PTA decided to conduct a hearing on the 9th of July 2020.

Meanwhile, the Authority also decided to solicit views of the public with reference to the said online game. In this regard, PTA had encouraged the public to provide feedback through [email protected] by July 10, 2020.
