New Leaks Hint at FromSoftware’s Pirate-Themed RPG

Recent leaks suggest that FromSoftware, the renowned Japanese game developer, may be working on a new pirate-themed action RPG. However, conflicting information about the project’s scope and content has created a divided response among the gaming community.
Initial rumors labeled the game as “Project FMC” or “Cerulean Assault,” hinting at an open-world pirate adventure possibly revealed during the Summer Game Fest with a release date aimed for August. These expectations led to comparisons with popular pirate games like Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag.
However, a new leak surfaced via a 4chan dump and shared by Reddit user ‘The-Noob-Smoke’ contradicts those earlier reports. According to these latest details, the game is reportedly not an open-world sailing adventure but instead takes place entirely on a single, massive island-sized shipwreck that has become fused with a landmass. The working title is said to include the word “Vessel,” and the player’s character is named “the Drowned” or “Deep Drowned,” echoing the naming style of protagonists in FromSoftware’s previous titles such as the “Tarnished” from Elden Ring or the “Ashen One” from Dark Souls III.
While fans who believe the leaks refer to the project as “Project Abyss,” noting FromSoftware’s practice of reusing assets to onboard new developers, skeptics remain cautious. Some compare the current situation to the previously debunked “Velvet Veil” leak that circulated years ago. The absence of an official announcement from FromSoftware means all these details should be treated as speculation for now.
Additionally, the leaks mention two other high-profile undertakings from the studio. One is a game titled “The Duskbloods,” reportedly slated for release in 2026. The other is an ambitious action-fantasy mecha game featuring organic, biological mechs, which is said to be a personal passion project of studio head Hidetaka Miyazaki.
FromSoftware has yet to confirm any of these projects, and fans eagerly await official news. Until then, speculation and rumors continue to stir interest in what could be the studio’s next innovative entry into the action RPG genre.
